A former Rivers State governorship candidate, Tonye Princewill, has described the 2023 presidential election as the most consequential election in the nation’s democratic journey.

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election campaign, Tonye urged civil society organizations, legislature and the citizens to be alive to their responsibilities and prevent the government of the day from riding rough over the people.

The Ex All Progressives Congress chieftain in an interview with pressloaded on Thursday said it is imperative for Nigerians to rise to their responsibilities especially at this point, ” when the nation faces existential threat because they have to leave with any choices they make as citizens.”

While also calling on the legislature to check on the executives, he added that institutions are very weak while the leaders are stronger.

According to him, “Today instead of the legislature to approve expenditure spending, the money is being spent before the leaders have a recourse to the legislature, so the legislature has to sit up and serve the nation.

“We all have a role to play in entrenching democratic culture that we desire not just to cast our vote and go to sleep.

“It is the combination of the civil society, legislature and citizens that will ensure that we do not have a dictatorship again as a leader come 2023”, he stated
