320 PVCs are found by hunters in the Bayelsa Forest

320 Permanent Voters Cards, or PVCs, were discovered in an incomplete building in a jungle near the Immiringi/Ogbia Road in Bayelsa State.

The Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service discovered the PVCs on Tuesday while conducting a normal sweep in the region. The PVCs had been concealed in a bag by criminals.

While delivering the recovered PVCs to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Bayelsa State, yesterday in Yenagoa, Moses Okano, the state commander of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service, disclosed this. He observed that as soon as the hoodlums arrived, they departed the location, allowing them to locate the PVCs.

“On Tuesday, I oversaw the operation during our usual patrol,” Okano added. Because of the activity we have been hearing in the bushes, we have started searching them. Beginning at Azikoro, we traveled through Elebele.

“While we were making our way around, we came across an unfinished building in the middle of the bush. There was some disturbance, and when we used our standard method of operation to find out who was there, the persons on sighting began jumping out of the unfinished structure’s windows.

“So, we were able to enter the facility, and what we discovered were the voters’ cards that had been abandoned. Knowing well well that they are federal government property and that INEC is the only entity with legal jurisdiction to maintain possession of them, we made the decision to reclaim them and bring them to the commission.

Okop Umo-Obong, the commission’s administrative secretary, accepted the PVCs on behalf of the Bayelsa State resident electoral commissioner and thanked the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service for protecting the area and presenting them to the commission.

Umobong promised that he would give the cards to Dr. Alex Hart, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, and that the Commission would look into the circumstances surrounding their discovery in the bush.

He said that an investigation would ascertain if the PVCs were dropped off during printing or whether they belonged to legitimate voters.
