The Lagos governor claimed that despite criticism of Shettima as his running mate, he has persisted because he is confident in his decision.

According to Tinubu, he does not think that sentiment or religion should be taken into account while making a decision.

“Much has been written and spoken about my choice of Senator Shettima as my traveling companion,” he stated.

“I have read and listened to all that has been written and said, and I am a devoted democrat and progressive. It has been a difficult and emotional time. I am aware of the intensity of emotion some members of our party have shown, and I value and respect everyone’s point of view.

“However, I am unwavering in my support for the choice of Senator Shettima. He is without a doubt the best candidate to support me as I run for office and, ideally, as I serve as president.

“I support the endeavor that this party began as soon as it was founded. In my opinion, our variety is both a source of strength and a necessity if we are to attain the greatness that our nation is capable of.

“True leadership isn’t based on sentiment, populism, or religion.
