An official must refund 11 years of wages due to false employment
A state high court in Jos has ordered Muhammed Nasiru, a senior employee of the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Vom, Plateau State, to return the salaries he was paid for 11 years as the head of administration after his appointment.
In addition, he received a six-month prison term for falsifying documents when applying for a job with NVRI and failing to provide appropriate documentation.
He had been charged with two counts by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) before the court.
Given that Nasiru was forcibly retired from service by the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Abuja, in 2003, the ICPC determined that he was ineligible for the position.
However, Justice Christy Dabup offered him a choice between a N150,000 fine and a jail sentence.
