As Messi breaks Ronaldo’s Champions League record in PSG’s most recent victory Aguero reacts

After scoring a goal in his team’s 3-1 victory over Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League on Wednesday night, Lionel Messi, the Argentine captain, has received praise from Manchester City icon Sergio Aguero of Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi moved closer to his former adversary Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 140 goals in the top-flight tournament in Europe with his goal for PSG against Maccabi Haifa.

Despite having surpassed Ronaldo in just one rating, Messi is still ranked second.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has now scored in the Champions League against a record 39 different opponents.

Previously, Messi and Ronaldo were tied for first place on 38 points, with Karim Benzema of Real Madrid as their nearest rival on 34.

Messi, however, posted little more than “Champions League” in a message on Instagram following the match.

And then Messi’s close pal Aguero commented on his compatriot’s post, writing: “Come on, Lionell. Send Wick pa to him.

While Messi could surpass some of Ronaldo’s records, he still has some work to do.

The captain of Portugal has the most Champions League appearances (187), as well as the most assists (42), in the competition.

Iker Casillas, a Real Madrid icon, is ahead of Messi on appearances with 181 to 158. He has 35 assists, five fewer than Ronaldo’s 37.
