At the 2022 Commonwealth Games Odunayo Adekuoroye wins Nigeria’s sixth gold medal


Odunayo Adekuoroye of Nigeria won the women’s 57kg Freestyle wrestling competition at the current Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

In order to win Nigeria’s first wrestling gold medal, the 28-year-old defeated her Indian opponent, Anshu Malik, 6-4 (VPO1) and successfully defended her four-year-old title.

The current African champion won a thrilling 10-0 victory over Hannah Taylor of Canada in the semifinals to get to the final.

At the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Nigeria has so far won six gold medals, along with two silver and five bronze.
