Did Kashim Shettima Eat Breakfast In Borno With Armed Bandits? (Photo)

Claim: In a now-viral photo on social media, particularly Facebook and WhatsApp, Senator Kashim Shettima, the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), was shown to be eating breakfast with bandits.

Total text: Recently, a picture of Senator Kashim Shettim, the former governor of Borno State, dining with several people who were allegedly “armed bandits,” went popular on social media. They were seen consuming bread, bottled water, and “suya” meat.

“Bandits having breakfast with their master,” reads the caption on the picture. Who are you? Kashim Shettima, Tinubu’s rival.

Shortly after the announcement of a Muslim running mate for a Muslim presidential flagbearer, scuffles between Muslims and Christians in Nigeria broke out. Some Christians said that given the situation in the nation, it is unfair for the APC presidential nominee to choose a running mate who adheres to the same islamic faith.

Observation: Since Senator Kashim Shettima was named Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the APC’s presidential nomination, it appears that personal attacks against him have persisted.

One of these tactics entailed the spreading of a photo of Senator Shettima with individuals who were allegedly well-known armed bandits or terrorists.

Verification: While Senator Kashim Shettima was the State’s governor, a full-length video obtained by PRNigeria shows him dining with nomadic Fulani in their community. His goal was to persuade them to enroll their children in his free educational program in that far-flung town.

Mr. Shettima dined with the Fulani chiefs during this excursion while dressed in the same attire.

This is demonstrated in a previously posted Mr. Shettima video from October 2017.

“We are enrolling the children of nomadic Fulani to school under a free scholarship scheme,” he captioned the video.

To increase enrollment and attendance at school, “under this program, we are luring both the parents and the children with a variety of incentives.”

Recall that in October 2017, Kashim Shettima, the then-governor of Borno State, introduced a free school enrollment program for children of Fulani nomads in an effort to, among other things, win over the nomads’ hearts and prevent potential confrontations that could cause a breakdown of peace.

As previously mentioned, Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, officially opened the Aisha Buhari Integrated School for Nomadic Community in Maiduguri in December 2018.

The Governor Kashim Shettima administration in Borno constructed and outfitted the school with the goal of giving nomad children a learning environment.

Shettima had multiple meetings with the parents, and after weeks of arduous persuasion using rewards, the nomadic Fulanis agreed to enroll their kids in schools. Due to this brilliant move, Fulani-related violence is no longer a problem in Borno today.

The assertion that Senator Kashim Shettima had breakfast with robbers is false, in our opinion. Senator Kashim Shettima has never had breakfast with bandit-terrorists, according to the uncontested evidence acquired by PRNigeria from video and reports made public by reliable media outlets. Therefore, the assertion is untrue.
