I’m the only participant to have done that. Willian explains what makes him unique

Former Chelsea star Willian has explained why, in contrast to many other footballers, he chose to break his contract with Arsenal.

Willian left Chelsea for Arsenal in 2020, however he later terminated his contract with the Gunners and left the Emirates without asking for any money.

The Brazilian has now discussed why, despite not feeling at ease as many football players would, he chose not to extend his contract with the club. The money is important to many athletes.

Wlian only had two assists on his debut for the Gunners because he found life in north London to be so challenging. He would also leave the Gunners after just one season.

After briefly playing for Corinthians in Brazil, he moved there, and now the 34-year-old is returning to London to join Fulham.

Willian told the Athletic, “I think I’m possibly the only player who has done something like this.”

“Any other player in my shoes would have stayed until the contract’s end and continued collecting the money. I’m not like that, though.

“The most important thing in the world is not money. To be motivated to go to training, I need to feel good. That didn’t sit well with me, so I chose to leave.
