A 27-year-old man called Joseph Fekali has reportedly been seized by the Bayelsa State Police Command for allegedly killing Kate Ogwoh, a recent Novena University, Delta State graduate.
Fekala, a citizen of the Ikibiri Community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, is charged with the murder of Ogwoh, 26, on the evening of Thursday, July 28.
After killing her, reportedly for unknown reasons, Joseph is accused of burying her remains in a tiny grave in his bedroom.
However, the alleged killer’s neighbors asserted that the crime scene indicated that he intended to use Miss Kate for a money ritual.
According to a different version of the story, the suspect is a youth pastor rather than a Yahoo boy, and he murdered the woman over a N50,000 debt.
Asinim Butwat, the command’s spokeswoman, confirmed the event in a statement on Friday, July 29. She claimed the suspect was apprehended as a result of a tip from neighbors.
“On July 28, 2022, Joseph Fekala, 27, of the Ikibiri Community, but a resident of Okaka, strangled Kate Ogwoh, a 26-year-old woman to death. In his bedroom, he interred the deceased in a small cemetery, Butwat claimed.
“The Suspect was taken into custody on July 29, 2022, at around 8:00 a.m., after neighbors provided a tip. At the State Criminal Investigation Department, he is being held. He said that the probe was ongoing.
Sir Dick Oguoh, the deceased’s father, told reporters at the State Police Command in Yenagoa that his daughter, an entrepreneur, left the house to meet a friend who just so happened to be the suspect’s younger sister.
He claimed that when the mother attempted to contact her on her mobile phone but was unable to do so, they grew uneasy and afraid.
Ogwo went on to describe how they became suspicious after the suspect initially denied seeing his daughter when they visited the house in Okaka and decided to call the police to report her missing.
The suspect killed his daughter, dug a small burial, bound her hands and legs, and buried her, he said, adding that as he was in the middle of filing a formal complaint with the police, he received a call.
