Muslim-Muslim Ticket Is Based On Political Strategy Not To Undermine Christians Says Fayemi
The Muslim-Muslim ticket put up by the All Progressives Congress (APC) was done so based on political strategy, according to Kayode Fayemi, the governor of Ekiti.
Fayemi made this statement while receiving a courtesy call from the newly elected officers of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ekiti state chapter, led by its chairman, Emmanuel Aribasoye.
The APC’s Bola Tinubu, a Muslim from the south-west running for president, announced Kashim Shettima, a Muslim from the north-east, as his running mate on July 10.
Some Nigerians have criticized this, calling it a “injustice” to the Christian community.
Fayemi stated during the visit on Friday that the choice wasn’t made to discredit Christians and that Christians ought to be more active in politics.
We need to move quickly and should have done it earlier, he said, by engaging the leadership in Christendom and outlining the context of the upcoming selection. “I have been talking to both the presidential candidate and other leaders of the party,” he added.
