Nigerians are only united by NYSC according to the Emir of Katsina
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is the only ongoing Federal Government Project out of the several ones that were started between 1970 and 1990, according to the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Dr. Abdulmumimi Usman Kabir.
Emir Kabir made the comment on July 20, 2022, during a courtship visit from Hajiya Muhammad Aisha, the state coordinator for the NYSC in Katsina.
The Katsina monarch urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to keep funding the NYSC Scheme, pointing out that it is the only initiative that promotes national unification and unity.
He acknowledged that, in contrast to what is happening now, when he participated in the Youth Corps program in Sokoto in the 1980s, he did so with commitment and selflessness.
The Emir continued by noting the many differences between today’s youth and those in his day. He said that whereas “youths in the good old days, listen and obey advice, today’s youths want to know why you are telling them to sit down” when you ask them to do something.
“Among other projects launched by the Federal Government in the 1970s, such as War Against Indiscipline (WAI), Green Revolution, to name but a few, NYSC is the only one that is still operating today.”
