NNPC Is Ordered By President Buhari To Repair East-West Road

The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries are mandated by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), to ensure that section 4 of the East-West route, which runs from the Eleme Roundabout to the Onne junction, is immediately fixed using the Tax Credit Scheme.

According to him, Nigeria’s largest infrastructure project and one of the most important to his administration is the East-West road project, which is currently being managed by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

This was said by Buhari on Thursday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as he was giving the keynote address at the meeting’s opening ceremony at the Ibom Icon Hotel and Suites.

Utilizing 21st-century Development Initiatives and Strategies for Greater Development in the Niger Delta was the focus of the event.

The President stated that the project’s completion is “top priority for this government,” who was represented by Environment Minister Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi.

He stated:

The federal Ministry of Works and Housing is currently managing the East-West road project, which is Nigeria’s largest infrastructure undertaking because it connects the nation’s busiest and most important commercial centers.

The Ministry of Petroleum has instructed NNPC and its subsidiaries to intervene and fix section 4 of the East-West road (Eleme Roundabout to Onne Junction), using the Tax Credit Scheme, in light of the priority this administration placed on the completion of this project.

He added that the Niger Delta Development Commission underwent significant reforms under his administration, and that the creation of a new board would result from the phased implementation of the recommendations of the Forensic Audit Report, which he claimed was the desire of the majority of regional stakeholders.

He continued:

The fight against corruption is one of the fundamental responsibilities of my admissions. To that purpose, the Report of Audit had been filed, and the implementation of its recommendations had started in stages in response to the Governors of the South-South geopolitical zone’s request for a Forensic Audit of NDDC from 2000 to 2019.

I hereby promise you that this process will ultimately result in the constitution of a new board for the commission, which is what the majority of regional stakeholders want.

Umana Okon Umana, the council’s chairman and minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, said in his remarks that the annual gathering is a venue for gathering all development partners to discuss “solutions to developmental and socioeconomic issues in the region.” He added that the council, however, was unable to meet in 2021 for a number of compelling reasons.

He said that his government would publish a list of all projects completed by the NDDC in all of the Niger region’s states.

According to Umana, the publication of the compendium was required because certain states believe that NDDC hasn’t done enough.

The Minister remarked:

” We intend to publish a compendium of all completed projects of NDDC in all the states in the Niger Delta region, because some states are saying that NDDC has not done enough.. The perception of people about what is not reported is that nothing has been done, so let people challenge us. when we publish the compendium” he said.
