Osimhen Attempting To Break Nigeria’s Record Set By Yekini

Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian international, is confident that he can equal or maybe top Rasheed Yekini’s Super Eagles record.

With 37 goals from 58 appearances for the national team, legendary Yekini holds the record. Segun Odegbami (23 goals) and Yakubu Aiyegbeni (21 goals) are second and third, respectively.

Osimhen, who has scored 15 goals in 22 games since making his senior debut against Togo in 2017, moved up to seventh on Nigeria’s list of top goal scorers after scoring four goals against Sao Tome and Principe in a June Africa Cup of Nations qualification match.

The Napoli star spoke to Naija Footballers about his ability to match the 1993 African Player of the Year, according to Pulse Sports.

It will be a big shoe to fill, as I’ve said before. But I believe that with the qualities I possess and the level of perseverance I have developed in my profession, I can surpass or even shatter it.

“It won’t be simple, and if it is, I will be the best Nigerian striker ever. Rashidi Yekini, Obafemi Martins, Odion Ighalo, and the rest of them are examples.

But now, I feel like it’s my turn, my time, and I think I can make the most of it.
