Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, celebrates his birthday on July 19th once more.

Peter Gregory Obi CON, a politician and businessman from Nigeria born on July 19, 1961, was the governor of Anambra State three times between 2006 and 2014. He was selected in May 2022 by the Labour Party to represent Nigeria in the 2023 presidential election.

Obi received his degree from the University of Nigeria in 1984 and was born in Onitsha in 1961. After that, he started a career in business and banking and finally attained various executive positions at banks. Before quitting the job to enter politics, Obi was the chairman of Fidelity Bank during the early 2000s. The All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate Obi fought against in the 2003 governor’s race was wrongfully declared the winner.

Obi was proclaimed the victor after three years of court fights, and he took office in March 2006. Then, in November, he was impeached. The impeachment was later thrown out, and in February 2007, he was reinstated.

When a new election was held in April 2007, Obi was once more removed from office; however, the judges once more stepped in and decided that he should be permitted to serve out his whole four-year term. He was re-elected to office for a second term in 2010. During Obi’s administration, the state’s finances, school system, and healthcare system all improved.

Obi defected to the Peoples Democratic Party in 2014, which helped him earn fresh reputation as a proponent of good administration and a prominent national political figure after he left office.

He was chosen as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the vice presidential primary for the 2019 presidential election, however he was defeated by incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

After leaving the PDP, Obi declared himself the LP’s presidential candidate for the general elections scheduled for 2023 in May 2022.
