Reactions are sparked by Asa’s “Fire on the Mountain” unveiling at NNPC


Online comments have been sparked by the performance of well-known Nigerian singer Asa during the changeover of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC LTD, to NNPC Limited.
The Petroleum Industry Act was relevant to the NNPC’s name change.

In front of President Muhammadu Buhari and a number of senior government figures, including the Senate President Ahmad Lawan, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva, and the Group Managing Director of NNPC Mele Kyari, ASA sang her blockbuster song “Fire on The Mountain.”

The song’s lyrics describe a country where “there’s conflict, bloodshed, and no one seems to care.”

Nigerians praised Asa on social media for sending a strong message to the president and other important government figures through her song.
