Tinubu finally discusses his decision to support Shettima and refuses to back down

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressive Congress, APC presidential candidate, has persisted in defending the choice of Shettima as his running mate despite rising criticism from many sectors of the country.

The former governor of Lagos State issued his most recent defense in response to ongoing attacks surrounding his choice to nominate fellow Muslim Shetimma for president.

In a multi-religious country like Nigeria, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and several well-known Nigerians have criticized Tinubu and the APC for putting out a single-faith ticket. They claim that this was inappropriate.

On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, during the ceremony in Abuja held to officially introduce Shettima, Tinubu revealed that his decision to support the former governor of Borno State was motivated by a set of values he has upheld his whole life.

He reaffirmed his resolve to work against his sin in order to improve the nation’s situation.

The principles of competence, innovation, compassion, honesty, fairness, and dedication to excellence have always served as the foundation for his decisions towards the people on his team and those with whom he worked.

These ideals are sacred in politics. They cannot be negotiated. There can be no victory or joy without them.

At the same time, Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, made a commitment to work with his vice presidential candidate and his team to improve the nation.

“Throughout my life, the values of competence, innovation, compassion, honesty, fairness, and commitment to excellence have served as a guide for my decisions about the group I work with and the people around me.

These ideals are sacred in politics. They cannot be negotiated. There cannot be success or joy without them, the former governor of Lagos declared.

Politics must stop here, and leadership must start. True leadership is not based on sentiment, populism, or religious pandering. Instead, we must throw off the constraints of conventional wisdom in order to move our country forward toward progress and wealth.

This period in the history of our country calls for a daring yet practical strategy. I chose Senator Shettima as a commitment to this direction. I’ve made the difficult decision because I think it’s the best one.

“Much has been said and published about my choice of Shettima as my traveling companion, he continued. I have read and listened to everything that has been written and spoken as a devoted and forward-thinking leader. For me, it has been a very emotional experience.

“I know it has to be my decision, despite the advise of many knowledgeable Nigerians. And the ability to make decisions when they need to be made is a sign of leadership.

I did consult, and I’m honored to see everyone here praising Kashim Shettima’s abilities as our vice president.
