Woman accused of marrying two spouses is remanded by a Kwara court
Awawu Haruna, a housewife, and two other people have been remanded by a Kwara State family court in Ilorin for allegedly getting married to another man while still in a relationship.
Her legal spouse, Ayuba Sule, brought Awawu Haruna and her father, Haruna Danjuma, to the Kwara State family court after she wed another man.
Sule admitted that his wife wed another man without their marriage ending.
The guy said before the court that, in accordance with Islamic law and traditions, his father-in-law had a significant influence on his marriage to her daughter.
However, Sule said that on August 6, 2022, the father-in-law, while the marriage contract with him was still in effect, helped arrange a second marriage between his daughter and one Jemilu Bahause.
“Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, the father of my wife Awawu, transported her daughter and the new husband, Jemilu Bahause, to an unknown location in order to conceal the illegality, and they have since been living together as husband and wife,” Sule testified before the court.
The matter was postponed for a hearing on September 26, 2022, by Magistrate Abdulraheem Bello.
He commanded the husband and wife, Awawu and Jemilu, as well as the groom’s father, to be detained at the federal prison in Ilorin.
