pressloaded had earlier reported how heaps of refuse took over some major roads and streets in Ibadan.

BOM in a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Femi Fakunle and the Secretary, Engineer Tunji Hammed, alleged that Makinde failed to sustain the tempo of public waste management instituted by the Ajimobi administration for 8 years.

The group noted that this is the major cause of the crisis in the waste management sector in the State.

The group noted that the stoppage of contractors from picking refuse within neighbourhoods is leading to an accumulation of waste everywhere in the State.

They added that such development posed danger to members of the public.

“A check within neighbourhoods in the Ibadan metropolis shows an avalanche of dirts, which have accumulated for months due to the stoppage, by government, of licensed refuse contractors from picking them, notwithstanding the fact that these services aren’t free, as neighborhoods pay well for them.

“Heaps of refuse abound within neighbourhoods, capable of posing serious threats to the health and vitality of residents, if unchecked.

“The current poor state of our environment now that heavy rains have commenced provides an expose of the Makinde Government’s cosmetic management of the waste disposal and attendant poor execution of road contracts, across the State,” the group said.
